Renowned journalist John Defterios will serve as the lead moderator for OGT 2026
Preparations for the 31st International Conference and Exhibition "Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan 2026" (OGT 2026) have entered a new phase. The large-scale forum will be held in Ashgabat from October 21–23 under the theme "Energy. Partnership. Progress." Organizers have confirmed the participation of world-renowned journalist, economic commentator, and moderator John Defterios, who will serve as the lead international moderator for one of the region's key industry forums.
The appointment of John Defterios coincides with several important milestones in preparation for the forum. To date, more than 150 delegates from around the world have confirmed their participation in the conference, all exhibition space is fully booked, and the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic, SOCAR, has joined the OGT 2026 Premier Partners.
John Defterios is rightfully considered one of the most respected international journalists and moderators specializing in global economics, energy, international trade, and geopolitics. For many years, he was a leading international commentator and CNN Business Emerging Markets Editor. His analytical materials and interviews have become part of the global news agenda, dedicated to issues of the global economy, energy security, investment cooperation, and sustainable development.
Over the course of his career, John Defterios has interviewed heads of state, heads of government, ministers, and the CEOs of major international energy companies, financial institutions, and global corporations.
Over the years, John Defterios has moderated plenary sessions and strategic discussions at the World Economic Forum, the OPEC International Seminar, the Atlantic Council's World Energy Forum, the ADIPEC International Oil and Gas Exhibition and Conference, as well as the International Monetary Fund and other prestigious organizations.
John Defterios is currently a professor of business at New York University in Abu Dhabi and a senior strategic advisor at the international consulting firm APCO Worldwide. The participation of this respected expert in OGT 2026 will be an important contribution to further strengthening the forum's international status and will ensure discussions are conducted at a high professional level.
