During a working trip to the Balkan velayat, which took place on January 13, 2022, the Hero-Arkadag acquainted himself with the projects of the Türkmengeologiýa State Corporation, containing information on the rich deposits of hydrocarbon resources of the western region in the Uzynada field, where in recent years work has been intensively carried out to develop underground storage facilities, and instructed to continue prospecting and exploration work in the coastal zone of the Caspian Sea.

“This historical moment served as an impetus for our activities, giving us even more confidence and pride, since the first prospecting and exploration work at this promising site was carried out by our team in 2013. Today, abundant flows of hydrocarbons are produced here. The two- and three-dimensional seismic surveys we carry out on the basis of fixed plans include profile, gravimetric and other research methods, the assessment of oil and gas content of formations and in-depth studies aimed at obtaining an increase in hydrocarbon resources,” Chary Sopiyev, chief geophysicist of the Balkan Geophysical Expedition of the Türkmengeologiýa State Corporation, says.

Last year, the Expedition successfully completed its planned obligations of 950 linear km of 2D seismic survey work, completing 51 linear km of research work more than planned. 3D studies were also completed on an area of 418 square kilometers with high quality and according to the schedule. Today, the 3D method of working in those areas is popular and provides ample opportunities for the in-depth study of layers with a deeper and more complex geological structure.

Expedition specialists, working in various areas, successfully identify promising oil and gas deposits within the field based on seismic data obtained as a result of studying strata at a depth of 6-7 thousand meters. The collected data is sent to the Corporation’s Geological Data Center. Over the past few years, the Expedition has acquired more reliable seismic stations and other necessary equipment. This has a decisive impact on the efficiency and quality of the finished work.

The main goal of the Expedition, which conducts seismic research in the territory of the Balkan velayat and the coastal zones of the Caspian Sea, is to study the geological structure of deep layers of the earth, to develop promising sources of hydrocarbon raw materials and to study their location. Specialists of the Expedition, consisting of three seismic and one gravel teams, successfully perform their professional duties.

Red deposits, characteristic of the western region of the country, are by far the most studied layers. Today, the study of Miocene strata reliably continues. In this regard, the work of the Expedition’s team, making a worthy contribution to the study of sedimentary rock complexes, who work under the leadership of team leaders Azat Chendirov, Chary Hydyrov and Komek Toychiyev, should be especially noted.

Today, the labor teams are working using the 2D method at the Rustemgala and Gulandag sites in the Etrek etrap and using the 3D method at the Porsy site in the Esenguly etrap. Gravimetric studies continue at the Keymir site.

According to Turkmen scientists, Miocene deposits are the most promising in terms of hydrocarbon raw materials. In just two months of the current year, the successful implementation of plans to develop 174 linear kilometers using the 2D method, 105 square kilometers using the 3D method and 66 square kilometers of gravimetric studies indicates that geophysicists will mark the current year with great labor successes as well.
